REPORT NARRATIVE:
At the July 15, 2015 Economic Development Workshop, the City Council agreed with the City Manager’s recommendation to proceed with the hiring of the Economic Development Coordinator position as included in the approved FY 2015-16 budget. The purpose of this report is to present the outcome-based job description for Council consideration.
Economic Development Coordinator
The proposed position of Economic Development Coordinator has been created to provide needed full-time support to the City’s Economic Development efforts and to provide capacity to support an enhanced work program that includes developing a Community Economic Development Blue Print that will serve as a guiding tool for strategies, programs and decisions to grow the economic health of the city. This position will also help create and organize citywide marketing plans, business outreach efforts, and administer programs and policies that will help streamline permitting processes.
The Economic Development Coordinator is proposed as a mid-management level position, with a salary range of $7,159 - $9,134 monthly, or $85,908 - $109,608 annually, and will report directly to the Economic Development Manager.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Inform
Staff discussed the need for an Economic Development Coordinator Position at the budget hearing in June and at the Economic Development Workshop in July, 2015. The position will be posted on the City’s website.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS:
No alternative actions are recommended since the Council agreed that the City should proceed with hiring this position.
PRIOR CITY COUNCIL AND COMMISSION ACTIONS:
On June 17, 2015, Council also approved the FY 2015/16 Budget which includes funding for this position. At the July 15, 2015 Economic Development Workshop, the City Council agreed with the City Manager’s recommendation to proceed with the hiring of the Economic Development Coordinator position as included in the approved FY 2015-16 budget.
FISCAL AND RESOURCE IMPACT:
The addition of an Economic Development Coordinator position would increase expenditures by approximately $153,000 (maximum current salary and benefits) annually. This funding is included in the approved FY 15-16 Operating Budget.
