REPORT NARRATIVE:
The El Toro Fire Station is one of two fire stations owned and maintained by the City of Morgan Hill. This fire station was originally built in 1978 and the kitchen has never been remodeled. On any given day, the fire station houses five to eight firefighters and administrative personnel 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For many of our fire teammates, the fire station is their home away from home. The kitchen at the El Toro Fire Station is used extensively on a round-the-clock basis and has become an integral part of fire house life. Therefore, upgrading the kitchen would greatly enhance the quality of life for our firefighters.
The work to be performed will be to demolish the existing kitchen, install drywall and paint. In addition, new cabinets, counter tops, sink, backsplash, outlets and under-cabinet lighting will be installed.
The bid opening was held on June 2, 2015 and two bids were received as listed below. The low bidder, Santa Clara Valley Construction, has several years of experience in construction. Santa Clara Valley Construction's construction bid was 13.5% lower than the engineer's estimate of $25,000.
Santa Clara Valley Construction $21,633
Valenti Builders $31,000
Staff recommends award of the contract to Santa Clara Valley Construction. This project is scheduled to begin in June 2015 and be completed by September 2015.
