REPORT NARRATIVE:
The City Council awarded the contract for the Aquatics Center Irrigation Demonstration Project to Jensen Landscape Services, Inc. at its March 16, 2016 meeting. The project included the removal of an irrigation system and lawn area, and the installation of a KISSS Irrigation System in its place. The KISSS irrigation system is a new generation, cutting-edge technology that provides greater control over root zone conditions which dramatically reduces water consumption.
The work was completed on June 28, 2016 in accordance with the plans and specifications for the project. There were two change orders in the amounts of $2,030 and $475, respectively. The final contract amount was $46,282.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Inform
The project purposefully occurred during the off-season. Customers of the Aquatics Center were informed about the purpose of the project. Now that the project has been completed, the community will be informed about relevant results, as needed.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS:
None.
PRIOR CITY COUNCIL AND COMMISSION ACTIONS:
The City Council has a long history of supporting water conservation demonstration projects. The specific concept and grant application for the Aquatics Center Irrigation Demonstration Project was approved by the Council on December 3, 2014.
FISCAL AND RESOURCE IMPACT:
The budget for the project was $81,500, which included a grant of $48,500 from the Santa Clara Valley Water District. The project award of $43,777 and the authorized contingency of $2,505 resulted in a total project cost of $46,282. Implementing water conservation demonstration projects is an activity included in the work program of the Community Services Department.
